Language and response settings
The interface language and the language a character writes in are separate. A setting changes the requested output; it does not translate an existing transcript.
Choosing a response language
- Open a conversation and expand Chat Settings.
- Find Language and select the response language.
- Send a short message and check the next reply.
On a wider screen, chat settings are in the expandable side panel. Menu placement can differ on mobile. Previous messages stay in their original language.
Available languages
English, Spanish, French and German are listed among the common language options. The chat dropdown shows the choices for your account. For Japanese, Chinese, Arabic or another language, confirm the available option and test a short exchange with the selected model.
A translated interface and a character writing in that language are different. For a simple language check, ask for an introduction and then a follow-up question rather than judging only the greeting.
Writing and format
Use one clear language instruction and keep the requested point of view and response length consistent. For a bilingual scene, say which speaker uses which language, then test whether the character follows that arrangement.
A persona can establish who you are in the scene without copying real identifying details.
If the character uses the wrong language
Recheck the setting, refresh if necessary and try a new short exchange. Remove conflicting language instructions from the character setup and your own prompts.
Language capability varies by model. Keep an example reply and the chosen setting for support if the problem persists.
Frequently asked questions

Is every language supported equally by every model?
